Timmy Hamilton

“Straight up… Timmy Hamilton charges harder than anyone else I know! He honestly has fun in waves that have everyone else out in the water franticly paddles around with their tail between their legs. I’ve seen him heave himself into some hefty ones at Pipe and Keikis that honestly have me, as well as others, questioning whether he is crazy or not. Besides charging, he flat out rips! And he’s been training hard, so watch out for Timmy!”

What’s your name?
Tim Hamilton

Where are you from originally?
Hanalei, Kauai

Where do you live now?
Hanalei, Kauai

How old are you?
22

How long have you been bodyboarding?
12 years committed to the boogie, but always in the ocean somehow.

Prone or DK? If both, how much of each?
Right now its about 85% Prone, 10% Standup Bodyboard, 5% JACKstance… I go through phases where I mostly ride one way or another depending on ongoing wave conditions and current board quiver.

Who do you bodyboard with?
Too many friends to name, but at home, on a daily or weekly basis, I bodyboard with David Phillips, Kainoa Lum, Adam Bice, Pyper Lluellen, Travis Smith, David Hubbard, and solo sessions or with my sister who surfs.

What is your favorite bodyboard spot?
The Pipeline.Where have you traveled to bodyboard? Hawaiian Islands, California, Mexico, French Polynesia, Samoa, Cook Islands, Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Iceland, and tried to get waves in Thailand and Ireland but got skunked.

Where do you want to travel to bodyboard?
Chile, Canaries, Alaska, South Africa, Rapa Nui, mysto zones.

What board(s) do you ride?
LMNOP Skip PP bat tail 43″
Turbo IV FRC core 43″
Morey 42.5″ PP Full crescent Pyper Lluellen custom hand-me-down

Do you compete?
Yeah, but not full-time (yet), just certain events.

If so, what competitions have you competed in?
Pipe Pro, USBA Sandys, Cloud 9 Classic, and a bunch of amateur events growing up.

What is the bodyboarding community in Hawaii like?
All good vibes! It’s sick how all the different islanders get along with each other. It’s really underground. I wish there were more young guys dedicated to representing Hawaii on the international scene. I think Jacob Romero, Bud Miyamoto, and David Phillips are on the right path.

Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
Viper fins, Denzien leashes… Epic support, MAHALO

What other board sports do you partake in?
None, I would hate to get injured doing anything else and not be able to bodyboard.

What bodyboard goals do you have?
To surf as much as possible and always keep improving every aspect of my riding, win the Pipe contest one day, push the limits somehow, make lots of money. ahahahaha!

When do you see bodyboarding going in to the future?
Soon, very soon.

What riders influenced your bodyboarding?
Mainly Oshi Grady, Kyle Maligro, Mike Stewart, Pyper Lluellen, and Jeff Hubbard.

What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Aussies with their mental waves and jet skis and cameras.

If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of bodyboards and fins what three things would you bring?
Duct tape, rambo knife, lighter.

What is the best advice you can give to a bodyboard grom trying to get recognized?
Try to rip first …. and don’t do drugs!

Any last words of advice? Shout outs?
Thanks to God for creating the wind and the waves and allowing me to experience them.
