Kingsley Uaiwa
By Editor | April 9th, 2009 | Category: Quick News, RIDERS |“Kingsley is one of Maui’s best (and Hawaii, for that matter)! It doesn’t hurt that he, Kingsley, is one of the few riders Leroy “Landlord” Kaiwi has taken under his wing and pushed in the water. Kingsley is constantly progressing and honing his skills in bodyboarding, both in free surfing and competition. Moreover, Kingsley is good people and one hilarious braddah!”

What’s your name?
Kingsley Uaiwa
Where are you from originally?
Maui, Hawaii
Where do you live now?
Still at the best place.
How old are you?
20 yrs. old
How long have you been bodyboarding?
For about 7 yrs now.
Prone or DK? If both, how much of each?
80% prone and 20% dk
Who do you bodyboard with?
I surf with my best friends: Kona Kuailani, Leroy “Landlord” Kaiwi, Riley Dutro, Leroy Amano, Visoput, Jake and Jonah Romero, Da Hammah, Fafafinge, CBlack, and whole bunch of youngens on Maui who are ripping these days. But all these guys rip and push me.
What is your favorite bodyboard spot?
Heath Ledger and Kahului Harbor
Where have you traveled to bodyboard?
All of Hawaii, California, New Jersey, New York, Mexico, and Indonesia.
Where do you want to travel to bodyboard?
Tahiti, Oz, and pretty much everywhere the waves are good.
What board(s) do you ride?
No.6 bludgeon and filthfury
Do you compete?
Yeah, I try to compete as much as possible.
If so, what competitions have you competed in?
I do the USBA Tour in America, and I just did the Pipe contest recently. Although, I got smoked at Pipe. It’s rare to surf it with three other guys in the water, so that’s super sick.
What is the bodyboarding community in Hawaii like?
Oh, it’s sick. Everybody pretty much knows everyone so we all meet up and hangout on each other’s islands and surf. Hawaii is known for its aloha and that’s what the bodyboarders have here. The thing I like about Hawaii is that the older guys who kill it try and help us younger guys become better and help us with are goals.
Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
The Foam Company and No.6 bodyboards
What other board sports do you partake in?
Well, I used to play a lot of paintball when there weren’t any waves but, as for now, I’m just working and surfing when I can.
What bodyboard goals do you have?
My goals are just to see the world and surf the best waves while doing the best sport in the world. Travel and do contest to push myself to become one of the best in the world.
Where do you see the bodyboarding going in the future?
I want to see the industry grow in Hawaii. There are so many good guys here that can’t travel the world and show their skills because they’re busy working 9 to 5 jobs. I hope the industry grows and gives people the chance to live their dreams like some others do in other countries.
What riders influenced your bodyboarding?
My friends for sure. Kona, Landlord, all the guys on Maui that surf with me everyday. You watch them kill it and they just push you and make you better.
What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Everyone in Hawaii.
If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of bodyboards and fins, what three things would you bring?
I would bring my ipod, alcohol, and a hooker for sure. Lol!
What is the best advice you can give to a bodyboard grom trying to get recognized?
Just push yourself to be better in every session you surf, bust big, and win contest.
Any last words of advice? Shout outs?
Yeeeehawwww… lets boogie!!!!
