Christina Shayne Jonee’ Delima

“Christina Delima is the only young Hawaiian woman I know that charges big Pipe and Keiki shorebreak. Not only does she draw nice lines in the water, she is also a very talented artist majoring in graphic design at the University of Hawaii. Recently added to the Science Hawaii team and Viper Fins team, Christina Delima is committed to pushing the level of riding for local bodyboarding women. Who can ask for anything more then an educated well rounded local bodyboarding chick that rips? Meet StinaDeeelima!”

-Jade Robles

What’s your name?
Christina Shayne Jonee’ Delima

Where are you from originally?
Kihei, Maui.

Where do you live now?
Temporarily in Honolulu, Oahu. I am finishing up school at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.

How old are you?
21 years of age.

How long have you been bodyboarding?
Probably about 6 years.

Prone or DK? If both, how much of each?
I pretty much always ride prone, but I get up and stand up from time to time. So I don’t know, 98:2?

Who do you bodyboard with?
Lots of people. At home, I usually surf with my brother Jon-Michael Delima, the Romeros, Kona Kuilani, Kingsley Uaiwa, Shea Sevilla, Leroy Kaiwi, Josh Detillion, James Nakamura, Jerremy Fuller, Emery Casio, Alex Quintana, and Kelly Gordon.

Outer-island guys and girls include Jade Robles, Kainoa Behasa, Lindsey Yasui, Amber Wong, Aka Tamashiro, Kelda Sakae, Kawika Kaui, Kainoa Lum, Adam Bice, Timmy Hamilton, Matt Holzman, Nate Rubio, Paul Benco, Keahi Parker, Reis Yonehiro, Heights, Boogienation, and others.

What is your favorite bodyboard spot?
Kahului Harbor and Insanitiesssssss.

Where have you traveled to bodyboard?
Inter-island Hawaii.

Where do you want to travel to bodyboard?
Everywhere! The Philippines would be my first choice I think, that along with a few other places within our islands.

What board(s) do you ride?
Science TR Size: 39 Color: Teal

Do you compete?
Yes, when I can.

If so, what competitions have you competed in?
Pipe, Sandys, Paia, Shippys, most inter-island events.

What is the bodyboarding community in Hawaii like?
Very tight knit. Everyone is stoked on each other. We’re all surfing for the love! Its sick!

Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
KB Productions and Heights Productions
The Foam Company (visit thefoamco.com)
Science Bodyboards (visit sciencebodyboards.co.za)
Honeygirl Waterwear (visit honeygirlwaterwear.com)
Viper Surfing Fins (visit viperfins.com)

What other board sports do you partake in?
None really, but other daily activities include Yoga and Dog walking.

What bodyboard goals do you have?
It would be nice to travel and surf uncrowded waves. I hope to progress in my riding and spend more time on the North Shore. It would be sick to make a final in a Pro division. But ultimately I just want to have a blast!

Where do you see the bodyboarding going in the future?
Forward, in a positive direction! I think that there are a lot of great things coming out of our sport. Everyone seems to be taking things to a whole new level.

What riders influenced your bodyboarding?
Hubbs, Skipp, Stewart, Landlord, Shawnee Lyman, Geraldine Gogin, Leila Alii. Though a lot of my influence comes from my friends since that is who I surf with most.
Jon-Michael Delima, Jade Robles, Kainoa Behasa, Nate Rubio, Paul Benco, Kawika Kaui just to name a few.

What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Hawaiian Bodyboarders are really showing the sport what’s up. There is some awesome stuff coming out of the HI, just as there’s always been.

If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of bodyboards and fins what three things would you bring?
Music, Mangos, and Myspace?!?!

What is the best advice you can give to a bodyboard grom trying to get recognized?

Stay humble, and always surf for the fun!

Any last words of advice? Shout outs?

Do what you love, and love what you do!

Love you Mom, love you Dad and JM too! You guys are the best.

Shout outs and Thanks to Alisha and Cary at the Foam Co, Mike, Norm and Paul at Science, Louisa at Honeygirl, Curtis and Fred at Viper! But also, I want to send a big Mahalo out to the ones behind the scenes and behind the lens, Heights Productions, Bodyboarders Hawaii, Beppu Photo, Boogienation and KB Productions. Thanks for blowing us up!
