I first met Adamm out at early season Backdoor six or so years ago. He was a charger back then and still is now. But he has, as many will agree, become amazing with his aerial antics … punting big reverses on some critical stuff out North. He gets higher than guys half his size, which is a feat considering he’s one big Hawaiian. These days he’s a family man living on the East Side, working hard to pay the bills; but he still manages to log in plenty of time in the water to sharpen his skills on the boog.

My name is Adamm Bird

Where are you from originally?
Originally from big island.

Where do you live now?
I currently live in Waimanalo

How old are you?
I am 25 years old.

How long have you been bodyboarding?
I been bodyboarding since the third grade, but started really trying to get better for about 7 or 8 years.

Prone or DK? If both, how much of each?
Prone 100%! Most of the time I DK I usually get hurt

Who do you bodyboard with?
I mostly surf with by little brother erlan bird and wife azia bird. And some times with bitzer. Other than that the local crew at half point, and country.

What is your favorite bodyboard spot?
For reliability, I gotta go with half point. But season time otw!

Where have you traveled to bodyboard?
Only inter-island. Big island, Maui, Kauai, Oahu.

Where do you want to travel to bodyboard?
I would love to surf Australia and Mexico and some mainland spots.

What board(s) do you ride?
I was getting into custom x, and then got a hook with empire. But now ive been riding the new turbo boards. Hard to find a good big boy board now days.

Do you compete? If so, what competitions have you competed in?
I competed in the sandys pro 3 years now, and one pipe trails.

What is the bodyboarding community in Hawaii like?
Most of time it’s the typical locals running the spots, but fairly good. I have bumped in to some knuckleheads in the past and heard of a few other incidents.

Do you have any sponsors? What companies?
No sponsors yet.

What other board sports do you partake in?
Just the boogie! Keeping it Old Testament!

What bodyboard goals do you have?
I would like to get picked up and get my name out there. Been thinking about some crazy stuff with the ski.

Where do you see the bodyboarding going in the future?
Not to sound rude, but I think they got surfing and bodyboarding mixed up. It should of been bodyboarding with headline news from the start! I felt no joy standing on my board. Or worrying if I launch out to the flats, 9 out of 10 times ill break my board! bodyboardings versatility will provide much more entertainment in the long run. HANDS DOWN!!!

What riders influenced your bodyboarding?
I’ve always enjoyed watching skip and mike!

What riders are pushing the sport right now?
Prob would go to Mitch Rawlins. And don’t forget Jacob Romero.

If you were stranded on a desert island that already has a plentiful resource of bodyboards and fins what three things would you bring?
Besides my family and friends- a camera, an ipod, and a survival booklet from Bear Grylls!

What is the best advice you can give to a bodyboard grom trying to get recognized?
It’s really about having fun! There’s a time and place for seriousness, but you still have to enjoy it.

Thanks to my wife for supporting me and brother erlan for keeping me on my toes! And you can never have enough friends!!!

What is the bodyboarding community in Hawaii like?
Different scene now. I grew up surfing with my brother Kaiona Whitaker and friends like Tharin Rosa, Tony Boy, Dean Marzol and the rest of the crew. But the new scene is awesome with guys pushing the sport like always. Lots of positive people in the scene. Lucky we live Hawaii.

Snowboarding

What bodyboard goals do you have?
Get as much long bus size barrels as I can in this lifetime. Blast big airs and always push bigger. Help push bodyboarding to a level to where it should be.

Where do you see the bodyboarding going in the future?
I see big companies in support of bodyboarding. More worldwide events. More people making careers as a professional bodyboarder. Guys putting it on the line, like today, and getting rewarded for it.

My Brother Kaiona, Dean Marzol, Sean Wadell, Tony Boy, and Joey Vieira.

The Hubb brothers, Jacob Romero, David Phillips, Micah, and Bud Miyamoto.

Kayak, lay net, and the internet.

Respect and let your riding speak for itself.

To all the photographers sticking it out for bodyboarding—Maurice A, Ryan Beppu, Danny Black, Heights production, Justin Pirdle, Colin M. and the rest… you know who you are. To all the spongers that share the best natural high in the world. We bodyboard because we love it.

The search for dream waves continues and goes beyond the barriers imposed by society, as even a focus of a worldwide epidemic, such as influenza A.

The team of Respect Bodyboards headed for a destination with access almost forbidden and found a Mexico still unknown. Not the traditional Zicatela, Puerto Escondido or other famous. Canary is the most promoted spot by the specialized media in recent times and is attracting the attention of the best riders in the world who come to compete in the final stage of the Tour of the IBA, the Grand Slam of El Confital. Break, take the opportunity to enjoy the power of waves as El Fronton, among others.

Jefferson Urdan is a professor in everything that surrounds the sport and it is with extreme category in which he talks about the importance of dealing with stress in the competitive world. Another column of the master of the style that is a must.

Our Mermaids can not miss and also give an appearance in the first edition of 2010, bringing the good vibes and motivation to move forward in this new phase of our lives.
